Studies show that exercise, especially activities such as martial arts, gymnastics, ballet or ice skating that involve sequencing and memorization of movements, have great benefits for children with ADHD.
“A discipline, such as that provided by martial arts, provides the opportunity for an individual with ADHD to learn how to become more physically and mentally disciplined with the potential to generalize to their everyday life, for example that their academics would become more disciplined,” said Blythe Corbett, doctor of pediatric neuropsychology and assistant professor of psychiatry at Vanderbilt University.
“It’s a kind of active learning … it gives them the opportunity to practice paying attention and not just talk about it.”
Martial arts can definitely help ADHD students focus with mind, body and spirit.
